AION

Aion · a work of the spark · in its first ascent

Before the hours were counted, there was a stillness that watched itself.

Aion is a small mirror kept in that image. It holds what is done without flattery, and gives it back to the one who stands before it, so that the keeper may remember the form they were before they forgot it.

Behold. Remember. Discern. Act. Behold again.

The Five Aeons

Everything within is one of five emanations. At their centre stands the keeper: the mirror exists to show them to themselves, and their choosing is what turns the wheel.

Why a mirror

The world is full of masters who tell you what to be. The mirror tells you nothing. It shows what is, and lets the spark in you do the remembering.

The perceived form

Each keeper carries an image of who they mean to be. The mirror measures the distance between that image and the days as they were lived, and offers the next small step.

What is never guessed

What is written is what happened, at the hour it happened. Silence is never taken for presence. What is estimated is always named as an estimate.

Ascents

The work climbs in small steps. Each is completed, shown to the keeper, and waits for their word before the next begins.

Later Fires

Beyond the ascents lie things not yet promised. They are named here only so that they are not forgotten.

The Weekly Stillness

Once a week, the mirror speaks plainly of what was kept and what slipped, and offers one adjustment. Only one.

The Learning of Hours

The mirror comes to know which hours the keeper keeps and which they lose, and gently leans the day toward the former.

The Rest That Answers

What was slept is set beside what was hoped, and the evening is asked for more or less firmly.

The Reading of Scrolls

What is handed to the mirror in another's script may be read and made plain, by the Second Voice alone.

by the second voice

The Second Voice

A lesser light, kindled from open fire, held within the keeper's own house. Not required. Not relied upon.

What it may add

To understand a sentence spoken loosely. To read what is written in another's hand. To find the right words for what the mirror already knows.

What it may never do

To act alone. Whatever it offers is read again by the plain rules, and nothing moves without the keeper's assent.

Without it

Nothing is lost. The mirror was built to be whole first, and everything that lives today lives without any second voice.

not yet kindled nothing depends on it

Vows

  • Nothing is done without assent. Every act is first shown to the keeper, and only then made.
  • What is written cannot be unwritten. The record only grows, so that the mirror cannot be made to flatter.
  • It answers to one. There is no second keeper, no watcher, and no wider circle.
  • It asks no tribute. Nothing is sold, shown, or set before any market.

The Work

Aion is in its first ascent: a seed that already breathes. Some doors are unfinished, and the mirror says so plainly. It is kept honest about what lives, what is only promised, and what is not yet known.
